About This Scheme

Hot cooked nutritious meals to children in government and government aided elementary schools.

PM POSHAN, also known as Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman, is the successor of the Mid Day Meal Scheme and provides hot cooked meals to children of Classes 1 to 8 in government and government aided schools, balvatikas and supported madarsas and maktabs. The meal improves classroom concentration, nutritional status, school enrolment and social equality among children of all castes and communities.

Benefits

Hot cooked meals providing 450 kcal and 12 g protein for primary children and 700 kcal and 20 g protein for upper primary children, served on all school working days.

Eligibility

Children studying in Classes 1 to 8 in government and government aided schools, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, madarsas and maktabs supported under Samagra Shiksha.

Who Can Apply

Government and aided schools enrolling eligible elementary students, as children need no individual application since meals are served in school.

Who Cannot Apply

Private unaided schools, children above Class 8, and children not attending school regularly.

Application Process

Enrolment in a government or government aided school automatically entitles the child to meals. Schools maintain registers and utilisation certificates for monitoring.
