About This Scheme

Scholarship of Rs.12,000 per year for meritorious students from economically weaker families in Class 9 to 12.

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme awards scholarships to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to prevent dropouts at the Class 8 to 12 stage. Students who qualify the state conducted scholarship test receive Rs.12,000 per annum, equal to Rs.1,000 per month, deposited directly into their bank accounts through DBT. Around one lakh scholarships are awarded every year across India.

Benefits

Scholarship of Rs.12,000 per annum, equal to Rs.1,000 per month, for students studying in Class 9 to 12 in government, government aided and local body schools.

Eligibility

Students who passed Class 7 and appeared for Class 8, with family income not exceeding Rs.3,50,000 per annum, securing at least 55 percent marks, 60 percent for SC and ST, in Class 8 examination.

Who Can Apply

Students of Class 9 to 12 from families with income up to Rs.3.5 lakh per annum who qualify the state level NMMSS test.

Who Cannot Apply

Students studying in private schools, students whose family income exceeds Rs.3.5 lakh per annum, students who fail to clear the NMMSS selection test.

Application Process

Apply through the state education board after the Class 8 examination. Selected students are continued in Class 9 and renewal is done annually on progress of the student.
