About This Scheme

Legal entitlement to subsidised food grains for about two thirds of India population under the TPDS.

The National Food Security Act 2013 provides legal entitlement to food grains for approximately two thirds of the population through the Targeted Public Distribution System. It covers Priority Households at 5 kg per person per month and Antyodaya families at 35 kg per household, at subsidised prices of Rs.1 to Rs.3 per kg. The Act also provides special provisions for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children, along with a two level grievance redressal mechanism and schemes such as Mid Day Meal and ICDS.

Eligibility

Priority Households identified by the state government through a grid of indicators including deprivation criteria, and all eligible households in the state as per coverage norms.

Who Can Apply

Economically weaker households identified as Priority Households by the state government without a valid ration card.

Who Cannot Apply

Households with income above the notified threshold, income tax payers, government servants owning specified assets, households with more than the notified landholding.

Application Process

Apply at the Food and Civil Supplies Office or through the state ration card portal or CSC. After verification and approval, an e-Ration card is issued and grains are collected from the Fair Price Shop.
