About This Scheme

Guaranteed 100 days of wage employment per year to rural households in unskilled manual work.

MGNREGA guarantees not less than 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. Employment is provided within 5 km of the village, minimum wages are paid as notified by the state, and an unemployment allowance is payable if work is not given within 15 days. At least one third of the beneficiaries are to be women, and work is executed for asset creation at the grassroots level.

Eligibility

Adult members of rural households willing to do unskilled manual work, whose names are registered in the Gram Panchayat registers.

Who Can Apply

Any adult member of a rural household aged 18 years and above on the date of application, including women and marginalised groups.

Who Cannot Apply

Persons below 18 years, urban residents, households with members in government service, and persons opting for skilled work.

Application Process

Apply in writing or orally at the Gram Panchayat for a Job Card. Work is assigned within 15 days, attendance is recorded in the muster roll, and wages are paid via DBT within 15 days.
